Our Story

Separate Simply was founded by Robyn and Josh Brent, who have life experience of separation and divorce, and the challenge of “moving on”. Having both been through painful divorces, they married and created a blended family that includes a total of seven children, one of which they had together.

Before her divorce, Robyn had never spent an evening apart from her children. The thought of having to split that time with their other parent was daunting to her. But she came to understand that staying in an unhappy marriage “for the sake of the children” does not make one a better parent. This realization gave her the freedom to get divorced and create a happier life for herself and her children.

Shortly after her divorce, Robyn met Josh, who for some time had been a single parent following his own divorce. Their shared experience and their passion for helping people and families inspired them to create the mediation and arbitration company now known as Separate Simply.

The Benefit Of Mediation Vs. Court

Separation and divorce can be a highly sensitive matter that involves private details that you wouldn’t want broadcast to the world. While mediation is voluntary and confidential, court proceedings and outcomes are often public record. If and when the time comes to finalise your divorce and any agreements that stem from it, we will be able to provide you with a recommendation to one of the exceptional lawyers we are connected with – lawyers who truly care about positive outcomes for parties and who believe in the value of mediation.

Divorce does not have to be an ugly, antagonistic process. Through mediation, you and your spouse or partner can learn to collaborate and communicate, and navigate your separation in a way that is beneficial to both of you, and most importantly, to your children.
